With effect from July 2007 the provisions for handling passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) as specified under EU
Regulation1107/2006 begin to apply.
As you will be aware the responsibility for dealing with such passengers will devolve upon the airport operator from
this date and it will be for them to ensure fair, non-discriminatory service standards for PRM.
Passenger numbers are expected to rise dramatically in the near future with a much higher proportion of PRM traffic.
It is estimated that some 10% of the population of the EU suffer from disability or reduced mobility.
From July 2007 aircraft operators will be required to publish their policies governing the treatment of PRM and
regulation will bite in July 2008 in respect of on-board assistance requirements.
As these changes arise at precisely the time of most rapid rise in passenger numbers aircraft turn around time becomes
even more critical.
Launched in Great Britain to comply with rigorous Health and Safety and Disability Discrimination regulations the
S-Max Amazon powered stair climber is now in standard service in almost all major UK airports and many regional
ones.
It is specifically designed to embark/disembark PRM (of up to 160kg) in respect of virtually any aircraft, especially
the smaller types including Saab340/2000, ATP, Avro RJ, ATR, Dash 8, Fokker 50/100, Boeing and Airbus types, and
Dornier 328. It will even fit a Twin Otter!
Capable of delivering the passenger from the airport lounge to their seat on the aircraft, the S-Max Amazon represents
the ultimate low cost, rapid response, reliable compliance partner, protecting staff from heavy lifting, providing
dignity and comfort for the passenger, and with the speed to help the aircraft depart on time.
